Stress and Hair Loss Can be Bed fellows
Are you Pulling Your Hair Out?
There is no denying it any longer; stress is a key factor in so much of what ails us. Stress has been linked to heart disease and heart attacks. Stress has been linked to high blood pressure. Stress has been linked to depression and anxiety. Stress has been linked to ADD and ADHD in our youth. Stress has been linked to obesity and anorexia and drug addiction and insomnia and narcolepsy. Stress has even been linked to some types of cancers.
You would be hard-pressed to find some negative health concern that is not related to stress in some way, don’t you think? Guess what the medical community is now also related to stress? Did you know that if you have hair loss, stress might be the culprit? That’s right; it is sometimes even called stress hair loss. And you don’t even have to pull it out; it can fall out all by itself!
Stress and hair loss often go hand in hand. If you have hair loss, stress may be one of the reasons. Perhaps that is why most people who begin to suffer from hair loss also have teenagers. I wonder if anyone has done a study on that. In all seriousness, now, stress hair loss or excessive hair loss for any reason can be troublesome and can not only be an indication of a health concern, but can also have a negative emotional or mental effect on its sufferers.
Male pattern baldness has long been a concern for men, and most people think of hair loss as a man’s problem, but women, too, have suffered from thinning hair and hair loss. In fact, statistics indicate that the numbers of women who are dealing with stress hair loss is increasing. As if women didn’t already have enough to worry about, right ladies? Childbirth and menstruation and menopause aren’t enough already? Now we have to worry about losing our hair, too? No wonder we are stressed out.
With all the health concerns that ruminate from that old bugaboo known as too much stress – i.e., life – one thing is certain. No matter what your health concern, high blood pressure, obesity, or stress hair loss, stress needs to be conquered. There are always going to be events and circumstances in our lives that cause emotional turmoil, so if you want to be healthier and have healthier hair, you need to figure out a way to circumvent the negative effects of stress. There are a variety of ways to accomplish this; meditation, yoga, prayer, medication, exercise, breathing techniques, and all sorts of other things can help you deal with the stress in your life.
If you have stress hair loss and you don’t know what to do about it, consult your physician or other medical professional and discuss your options. Most likely, finding a healthy way to combat stress will be one of those options.
